This recipe is somewhat similar to Rava Dosa, which is one of the speciality of South India.

The recipe can be made very quickly. Similar to Rava dosa, it does not require any fermentation at all. Although, for a better crisp of Rava Cheela, it is kept to soak water for 15 to 20 minutes.

Rava chilla can be served in breakfast or it can also be a great alternative to normal chapati.

Carry it in your lunch box, or in your tiffin box, it tastes better with Coconut chutney or normal tomato ketchup.

 




Ingredients for Suji Chilla Recipe


 

Ingredients Measurements (1 CUP-250 ML)
Rava/ Suji 1 cup
Onion (finely chopped) ¼ cup
Dahi (Curd) ½ cup
Carrot (grated) 2 tbsp
Capsicum (finely chopped) optional 2 tsp
Green Chilies 2
Ginger paste 1 tsp
Coriander leaves (chopped) 3 tbsp
Turmeric ¼ tsp
Salt According to your taste
Oil 1 tbsp
Red chili powder ¼ tsp
Water ½ cup

Steps to Prepare Sooji Cheela Recipe


How to make the batter for Sooji Cheela?

Step 1: Take a big bowl. Add Rava and curd into the bowl and mix well.

Step 2: Next, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and ginger paste along with ¼ cup of water and mix very well.

Step 3: Cover the bowl and let the mixture rest for another 20-25 minutes until the Rava soaks the water well.

Step 4: After 20 minutes, add chopped onion, carrot, green chilies, capsicum, and coriander leaves to the mixture along with ¼ cup of water and mix very well.

Step 5: Keep adding small portions of water at regular intervals until the mixture turns into medium-thick flowing consistency.

How to Make Sooji Cheela?

Step 1: Heat a non-stick Tawa. Once the Tawa is hot enough drizzle some oil over the Tawa.

Step 2: Turn the flame on low and pour a ladle full of batter.

Step 3: Gently spread batter into circular motion and cook it on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4: As soon as the suji cheela starts to cook, drizzle some oil on the sides of the chilla and let it cook for another 30-40 seconds.

Step 5: Once the chilla turns brown from beneath, flip the side.

Step 6: Let the other side roast as well until it gets light golden brown spots.

Step 7: Once the second side of the suji cheela turns light golden, remove the cheela from the Tawa and place it on a plate.

Step 8: Serve the hot Rava Cheela with green chutney or tomato sauce.

Tips for perfect Rava Cheela Recipe


  1. To enhance the taste of Rava Cheela, you need to soak the rava for 20 minutes at the least.
  2. Use more curd/dahi for instant taste enhancement of you rava cheela recipe
  3. You can also add grated fresh coconut.
  4. While cooking the Cheela on tawa, add ample of oil.
  5. Adding capsicum is totally optional. But it will enhance the taste.
  6. You can also try Besan Cheela if you don’t have semolina at home.
