He was a resident of Mandvi, Kutch which is in the state of Gujarat. So Kutchi Dabeli got its name from here. Keshav’s next generations are operating his shop now in Mandvi.

Kacchi Dabeli Recipe
To make a homemade dabeli recipe, you would need,
- Pav
- Coriander Leaves
- Peanuts
- Garlic
- Red Chili
- Lemon Juice

- Dabeli Masala

– Before starting the recipe, soak ½ Cup garlic and 2 Red chilies in separate vessels for 30 minutes and keep it aside.
– Take a large kadhai and bring it to heat on medium flame. Dry roast ½ Tsp cumin seeds, 1 red chili, ½ inch cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, and coriander seeds together.
– Now, add these ingredients in a grinder and grind them to a fine powder. Keep it aside.
– Add the soaked garlic, and red chilies into a grinder jar and grind them into a paste. Add lemon juice and salt according to your taste. Add water if necessary and keep it aside.
– Boil 3 medium-sized potatoes using a pressure cooker. After it is cooked, peel it and keep it aside and let them cool.
– Take a kadhai, add 2 Tbsp oil and let it heat on medium flame. Now, add ½ Tsp Cumin seeds, saute them until they start crackling. Add 1 chopped onions, a pinch of hing and saute it until the onions turn soft.
– Then, add 2 Tbsp dates tamarind Chutney to it and saute it. Now, mash the potatoes and add them to the mixture.
Add the dabeli masala powder and salt and mix them well.
– Keep stirring the mixture so that all the ingredients mix well. Keep the filling not too thin neither too thick. Adjust it by adding water or by cooking it for some more minutes.
– After it is done, spread it on a plate, sprinkle some pomegranate seeds, chopped coriander leaves and keep it aside. Take 1 bun or pav. Apply some garlic chutney on one side and sweet tamarind chutney on the other.
– Using a small spoon, add 1 spoon potato filling in it. Then add some chopped onions, pomegranate seeds, and roasted peanuts.
– Now, add another spoon of potato filling. You can add 1 spoon or ½ spoon of the filling in this step. Now, heat a Tawa, add 1 Tsp butter or ghee whichever you prefer, toast the potato-filled dabeli until both the sides become crunchy. It tastes better when crunchy.
– Stick some nylon sev to the dabeli filling.
– Your Kacchi Dabeli Recipe is ready to be served. Serve the dabeli recipe along with chopped onions and roasted peanuts. Serve it warm. You can also add some grated cheese with the filling.

How to Make Dabeli at Home?
Ingredients
- 6 Buns or Pav
- ½ cup Coriander Leaves finely chopped
- ½ cup Peanuts roasted
- ½ cup Garlic
- 2 Red Chili
- ½ tsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Coriander seeds
- 1 Dry Red Chili
- ½ inch Cinnamon Stick
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- 3 Cloves
- 1 small Onion chopped
- 3 medium Potatoes peeled and smashed
- 2 tsp Dabeli Masala
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- 2 tbsp Dates-Tamarind Chutney
- ¼ cup Coriander Leaves chopped
- ¼ cup Pomegranate Seeds
- Oil as needed
- Salt as needed
- Water as needed
Instructions

Notes
- You can use coriander powder instead of coriander seeds while making the dabeli masala.
- Add some red chili powder if you love spicy.
- You can also buy readymade dabeli masala which can be found in any grocery stores or general stores.
- Adding masala peanuts will also work instead of plain peanuts. To make the masala peanuts, dry roast the peanuts on a tawa for a few minutes or until the peanuts become crunchy. Then, in a kadhai, add some oil, add the peanuts, add some red chili powder and saute them for few seconds.
- You can also add pav bhaji masala instead of dabeli masala.
