This instant oats idli recipe is healthy and can be made using powdered oats. Unlike normal Idli which takes at least 1 day to make, oats idli can be prepared within 2 hours.

It doesn’t require any fermentation yet a healthy snack. You can use any oats to make this recipe. even quaker oats can be used.

Ingredients for an Oats Idli Recipe

Rava (Semolina) ½ Cup
Oats 1 Cup
Curd (Dahi) ¼ Cup
Lemon Juice ½ Tbsp
Mustard Seeds ¼ Tsp
Eno (Fruit Salt) 1 Tsp
Cumin Seeds (Jeera) ½ Tsp
Carrot (Chopped) 2 Tbsp
Urad Dal 1 Tsp
Salt According to your taste
Water As you require
Ginger (Grated) ½ Tsp
Chana Dal (Chickpea) ½ Tsp
Cashew Nuts (Optional) 8 to 10
Hing (Asafoetida) 1 Pinch
Oil 2 Tbsp
Curry Leaves (Kadhi Patta) 4 to 5 Leaves
Green Chili (Chopped) 1
Coriander Leaves (Dhania Patta) (Chopped) 1 Tbsp

Steps to Prepare Oats Idli

How to prepare Oats Idli Batter?

Step 1: Take a grinder jar.

Step 2: Add 1 Cup Oats in the jar and make a fine coarse powder of it.

Step 3: Now, in a Kadhai or a pan, heat oil or Ghee.

Step 4: After it is hot add ½ Tsp Cumin seeds, ½ Tsp Mustard Seeds, 1 Tsp Urad Dal, and ½ Tsp Chana Dal.

Step 5: Saute it until the mixture turns golden in color, then add 1 Green Chili, 4 to 5 Curry Leaves, and ½ Tsp grated ginger.

Step 6: Give a good stir and then add ½ Cup Rava and fry till it becomes aromatic.

Step 7: Now, add the powdered Oats and fry for 5 to 10 minutes until nice aroma comes out of the mixture.

Step 8: Now, add salt and mix it and then keep this aside to cool down.

Step 9: After the batter cools down, add ½ Cup curd and 1 cup water to make a thick batter.

Step 10: Now keep it aside for 5 to 10 Minutes.

Final Steps to prepare Oats Idli

Step 1: Take an Idli Steamer.

Step 2: Add some water and then bring the vessel to boil.

Step 3: Also, in the meanwhile, grease the Idli molds. You can also place Cashews or Pistachios in the center of the molds if you want.

Step 4: The batter might turn thick which is very important to make oats idli.

Step 5: Add Lemon juice and some more water if you think the batter is very thick. The thickness of the batter must be like Idli Batter.




Step 6: Now add Coriander leaves, Carrots and give a good mix.

Step 7: Finally, add 1 Tsp ENO and give a gentle mix.

Step 8: Using a spatula, fill all the molds of Idli Steamer.

Step 9: As soon as the water in the idli steamer vessel starts to boil, place the idli stand filled with idli batter inside the vessel and steam it for around 10 to 12 Minutes.

Step 10: Switch off the flame and remove the idli stand after 5 minutes.

Step 11: With the help of a large spoon, remove all the Oats Idli.

Serve them in a plate along with Sambar or Coconut Chutney.

Tips for a perfect Oats Idli Recipe

  1. Make sure that Oats Idli batter is not of pouring consistency.
  2. Also, make sure that the batter is smooth. There shouldn’t be any lumps.
  3. To check whether your Oats idli is cooked or not? Using a knife, Pearce it inside anyone Idli and then remove it. If nothing sticks to the wall of the knife, then it is cooked perfectly.
  4. Instead of ENO, you can also use ½ Tsp baking powder.
  5. Instead of Cashews, you can also use Pistachios or Raisins.
  6. You can also use quaker Oats if you want.
